I’ve linked up with Farley  for June Currently

Well although I’ve almost experienced a full week of my summer this currently isn’t too exciting.

I spent my morning at the Take Care Clinic to find out that I have an ear infection and allergies.  Thankfully my sweet husband is currently at Kroger picking up my prescription.  I sure help after a few days of some antibiotics I am feeling back to my normal self.  Growing up I had a lot of ear infections but its been YEARS since I’ve had one and I forgot how much it hurts. Boo!

Thinking

With the big game tonight, a few of my husband’s friends are coming over so I am trying out a few new recipes! Although I have no energy right now, I am hoping in a few hours I’ll be good to go to cook some things.  I’m going to do a Hawaiian chicken kabob, smashed red potatoes and grilled zucchini.  To hit the sweet spot, I am going to make a Monster Cookie Dip. YUM!

Needing

I LOVE  sweet tea and I think it makes a not so great day better.  I’m making myself drink more water since I’m sick but its so hard when sweet tea sounds soooo good.  I may have an addiction. 🙂

Vaca Essentials

Well this summer we will be venturing to Disney World in July and we could not be more excited! Whoo hooo! My three essentials is a swim suit, cute dresses, and sun! I am all about spending time relaxing at the pool so a swim suit is big for me.  I went on a swim suit search last week and I’ve had NO luck.  I can’t find one that I feel is modest enough and that I like how I look.  I’ll have to keep searching.  My favorite part of the summer is cute clothes and dresses.  I love a sun dress that is casual and can be put on after a day at the pool.  And of course love the sun! It just makes my day better!

June Monthly Goals

Image

I linked up with http://iheartrecess.blogspot.com/ to create goals for June!

1. I HATE doing the laundry.  I’ve recently started calling my husband the “Laundry King” because he basically always does it.  However, we have a nice sized pile waiting to be washed so I need to get busy. FAST.

2. My husband and I are blessed to currently both have a summer off (until he finds a new job). We LOVE finding new things to do in the NKY/ Cincinnati area.  I hope we can find a few new things this summer to do together.

3.  I’ve said before that my husband is a marathon runner and now my younger sister is becoming a runner.  Knowing she is running makes me want to run more.  I’ve got to beat her 🙂 haha

Image

That was a recent conversation we’ve had about running.  My goal is to be able to run two miles by the end of the summer.  Currently I’m running about half a mile and walking the other half. (Yes my sister’s name is INA in my phone.  “Ina Knott” Get it?? haha her real name is Chelsea)

4 and 5.  I brought home my ELA binder this summer.  I have each unit divided up and I plan on going through and adding post it notes about some of my favorite, most successful activities we did for each unit. Through working on this project, I hope to create some more ELA units to add to our teacher pay teacher store. (http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Fabulous-First-Grade) I also have a binder for the first three writing units a colleague and I are going to try next school year.  The more I read the more excited I become.

6. With less of a structure routine now, I have to plan when to have my quiet time each day.  During the school year, I read in the mornings before my feet hit the floor and I think I will continue that during the summer.

Five for Friday (Linky Party)

1. Summer is here!!! Wednesday was my last and I’ve LOVED every minute of my first two summer days.  Overall I had a challenging but a very rewarding year. I love the school I teach in and look forward to next year. I plan on using at least one day a week during the summer planning and preparing for next year.

2. Last summer, I became addicted to watching Pretty Little Liars and quickly caught up on all the seasons.  This summer I have a new addiction and it is the show Nashville.  How have I been missing this show?? I’m not even a huge country music fan but this show has captivated me.

3.  With it being summer, I’ve had plenty of time to try out some new recipes and I am LOVING it! I’ve tried several off of my Pinterest Recipe Board.  I LOVE Pinterest! It was so helpful with wedding planning, decorating our home, classroom ideas, and to feed my food/cooking love.

4. My husband is currently looking for a new job.  I naturally tend to worry and become anxious about EVERYTHING. But the Lord has given me such a peace and comfort about this process.  I know that He has a plan and is in full control over the situation.  I am excited to see what God has planned for my husband and continue to daily give those worries over to the Lord.  God is good.

5. Have I mentioned that it is sweet, sweet, SUMMER TIME!!!!! Hooray!!!!

School’s Out for Summer!

Hooray!!!! Summer is almost here! I have one PD day left and then I am by the pool. Whoot Whoot!

With summer quickly approaching, I wanted to share a easy, tasty salsa recipe I used this past weekend for our Memorial Day party!

Image

It is perfect for a hot summer day!

Here are the ingredients:

onion

cilantro

black beans

canned corn

rotel tomatoes

Image

I realize my lime juice got left out of the picture. bummer.

Basically, you open the can of corn and black beans, rinse, and drain. Combine the corn, black beans, and rotel tomatoes.  Chop up the onion and add to the bowl.  Add the desired amount of cilantro and lime juice.  I used bottled lime juice but you could use fresh lime juice, too.

It was gone at our Memorial Party.  Delicious!!

In celebration of summer, here is our “Hooray Last day of School” picture we took at the bus loop. Image

One Year Anniversary

Yesterday my wonderful hubby and I celebrated our first year of marriage! I can’t believe it’s been a year already.  We spent almost two years preparing, planning, and dreaming about our big day and it FLEW by! Those two years seemed to crawl but this past year has gone in a blink of an eye.

I found myself looking back at our wedding pictures yesterday and I can’t get enough of them.  I loved everything about our wedding.

Here are some of my favorites! Image

We celebrated our anniversary by having lunch at PF Changs and spending the afternoon at the Banks in downtown Cincinnati.  We had so much fun and I feel so blessed to be married to someone who makes me laugh and we love spending time with each other.

My amazing husband surprised me with this for our anniversary!!! What???!!!!

As I prepared for our wedding and future marriage, I loved hearing advice from others. I heard time after time how difficult the first year of marriage could be and I was a bit nervous, to be honest.  I would be lying if I said there wasn’t a few difficult moments but overall it was a wonderful year.  We grew together and grew with Christ.  I found myself clinging to a few very specific verses this year  to become the wife God intended me to be.

Ephesians 5: 1 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b]her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”[c] 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

I found myself constantly going back to these scriptures because without God’s perfect grace and patience this year would have been much harder.  I still go back to these verses to remind myself of who God wants me to be and how I can be the best wife for Drew. I love forward to this next year with Drew.

Wonderful Weekend

This weekend flew by!!

We spent Friday with one of my favorite families in the world! I have been babysitting for them for years and just can’t seem to get away.  I love my every other Friday job! We had a fire pit, a big kick ball game, and roasted marshmallows.  It was just what I needed after a long week at work.

Saturday came bright and early with a kids Flying Pig 5k at the local high school.  Our 3rd-5th grade students have been running in the mornings and working their way to 26.2 miles.  On Saturday, they ran their last mile! My wonderful hubby was the DJ and we blasted some tunes! We then went downtown so he could get all of his gear for his third marathon.  Thats right! My man ran his third marathon. I am one PROUD wife! After picking up his race gear, we traveled down to Lexington for a pre graduation dinner with my sister. It was so fun! I think I drank my weight in Sweet tea. It’s my biggest weakness. ugh

Sunday came bright and early! We had to take a quick pic before he left. ( I wasn’t able to cheer from the sidelines this year with graduation but I was there in spirit and lifted a million prayers to God)

Image

My family and I traveled back to Lexington and I have never been prouder! My sister is a beautiful college graduated! The most exciting part?!?! Her soon to be hubby got a job in NKY so she will be here!! I can’t wait to spend time with her and my other sister, laughing, cooking, and creating memories.

Slide1

While I am catching up on my blog, I have Wife Swap on in the background.  I can’t believe some of the families on this show! CRAZINESS!

I am loving this amazing spring weather.  It has been beautiful here! Praising God for His Mighty Creation! My firsties and I have loved the wonderful weather.  We enjoyed a short popsicle party outside today! We celebrated doing our best on our benchmarks.

I’m thinking about how much I can’t wait for summer! I am a bit sad that there is just 16 more days with my sweet class but at the same time I can’t wait for summer!

I am wanting to take a nap. BAD.

I am needing a haircut.  I am in the process of growing it out for my sister’s wedding/ donating it.  It’s gotten to a point where it is just flat and kind of blah.  Perhaps I need to add in some layers.  I had straight across bangs (which I loved) so I am considering cutting those again.  We shall see.

Summer Bucket List: Disney World!! My parents surprised myself, my two sisters, my hubby and future brother in law with a Disney World trip in July.  It is going to be the best week ever!!!  I am craving a tan! Lastly, I have been running a few times a week but I want to be able to comfortable run a 5k.  My hubby runs marathons for goodness sake! I should be able to run a 5k. 🙂

Hope you are enjoying a wonderful Thursday!

Busy, Busy!!

Well today was a busy, wonderful day!!!

We started the day with a little shaving cream spelling.  We started the routine of having shaving cream spelling every other Thursday and my firsties love it!! We practice spelling words with the shaving cream and then I allow students to have a few minutes at the end to write their name.  It is their FAVORITE thing all week.

In writing, we have been learning about convections and reading “Where are you Going? To See my Friend” by Eric Carle.  Students chose two animals to create a dialogue between and today they created their illustrations to go along with their writing.  I love to have a nice, organized, clean classroom so it was a bit much to look around and see tissue paper EVERYWHERE.  But we managed to get it cleaned up. I love how eager they get to help me do different jobs around the classroom.  They were so pumped about being helpers and getting everything picked up.

Here are a few pictures of their wonderful work and our messy room!

In math, we have been learning all about graphing.  It is one of my favorite things to teach. I love all the possibilities of creating different graphs.  When I saw on The First Grade Parade the graphing activity about hugs vs kisses, I knew it would be something to save just for this math chapter.  Who doesn’t love chocolate and graphing?!?  Each student tried a hug and a kiss.  We voted for our favorites and did a writing activity.

We finished our day with a popsicle party for all trying our best on our last benchmark of the year!! I also tried a new recipe (later blog post) and did a little shopping at New York and Company so it’s been a very successful day!!
